Wearable Art 

Alpaca Fiber Studio & Friends creates wearable art pieces by hand dying locally raised fibers. Each piece is designed, hand dyed, then hand felted creating these one of a kind treasures.  "Nuno Felt" is a contemporary approach developed in 1992 by Polly Sterling. It has become a much sought after wearable art form quickly growing in popularity.

The challenge for me, is to be open to the creative energy. The dynamics between what the fiber wants to become, and what I want to make!  Listen. Through creative experimentation and allowing myself to make mistakes.

Nuno Felt Wrap
Each wrap is hand dyed, hand felted with alpaca, merino and silk.  Nuno felting is the process of creating tropical felt by placing fibers, very lightly, onto the silk then wet felting.  By contrasting the shrinking of felted wool fiber with non-shrinking weave, into which the wool fibers are bonded, a rouching effect of soft texture occurs. This ethereal artwork is perfect to wear for a casual summer evening walking though Chagrin Falls, eating ice cream and.


Eco Print meets Nuno Felt

This new, sophisticated natural dying process is called Eco Printing.  It is the art of contact printing nature onto my Nuno Felt designs.  Leaves, seed pods, and flowers are used from my yard to give up their wonderful shapes and color onto these wearable art creations.      


Nuno Felt Poncho/Wrap
My version of Nuno Felt introduces a layered textile.   I incorporate multiple weaves with diverse characteristics and the great bonus of recycling those pre-loved or salvaged fabrics. The Felted Poncho/Wrap possesses an exciting contrast of textures and depth of color!
